1.      BEFORE DOWNLOAD,

A)    To facilitate the identification of files, go to My Computer (accessed as an Icon on the desktop or through the “Start” button.  Go to the “Folder Options” menu item found in some versions of Windows under the “Tools” Menu item or, in other versions, under the “View” or “Edit” menu items.  Select the “View” tab after the dialog appears, and then uncheck the item “Hide file extensions for known file types”.  This will simply allow you to see the ‘.exe’, ‘.doc’, etc extensions when working with the folders and files.

B)    Open My Computer, or the Windows Explorer, and create a new folder (directory) on the desired hard drive called WinMPMtp.  (Use the following instructions if you do not know how to open the Windows Explorer and/or create the directory):

1)      Press the “Start” button, highlight the “Programs” menu entry, and then select “Windows Explorer”.

2)      Select a hard drive on which you want to install WinMPM by clicking on the hard drive icon if it is not already highlighted.

3)      Select the “File” menu option and click on “New” and then “Folder”.  When the “New Folder” box appears in the right side panel of Explorer, overtype: WinMPMtp and then press the Enter Key.

4)      You have now created a directory on the selected hard drive called WinMPMtp.

2.      Click on “Download the latest WinMPM Beta” hyperlink above.  A file download dialogue box will open asking what you would like to do with the file.  Choose to save the file to disk and click on the ‘Ok’ command button.  A ‘Save As’ dialogue will open.  Open the ‘Save In’ combo dropdown and click on the C drive (or other drive you have just designated for the WinMPMtp directory,) and then double click on WinMPMtp folder.  Press Save and the file winmpmzp.exe will be saved to the WinMPMtp directory.

3.      After completing the download (which should take approximately 30 minutes on a 56k connection, 1-3 minutes on a cable 4mb connection), make sure you have a complete file by comparing the size of the download to the size specified above. To get to the WinMPMtp directory, go to the my computer icon or the Windows Explorer and open up the C:\WinMPMtp directory (or other drive designated for the WinMPMtp directory) by double clicking on the icon.  To compare file sizes, right click on the downloaded file in the Windows Explorer WinMPMtp directory just created and select the "Properties" menu item to display the downloaded file size.  The sizes MUST be identical.  If they are not identical you likely have an incomplete or corrupted Internet download.  Delete the file fragment in your temporary WinMPMtp directory called Winmpmzp.exe, return to this site, and download the WinMPM beta file again.

4.      To begin the unzipping of the files on your computer either:

A)     Return to the WinMPMtp directory.  Then double click on the file winmpmzp.exe in the temporary WinMPMtp directory; or

B)     Press to the “Start” button, select the “Run…” menu item and type the following, WITHOUT the parentheses, in the ‘Open’ text area: “C:\WinMPMtp\winmpmzp.exe”.  (Replace the C drive letter with another drive letter if you have installed the temporary directory to a hard drive other than the C drive.)

5.      Four (4) new files will appear after refreshing of the temporary directory.  To refresh, go to the “View” menu item on Windows Explorer and select ‘Refresh’. (Additional files may be added from time to time.)

6.      Either:

A)    Double click on the file called 'UnZIP.bat' in the WinMPMtp directory.  IMPORTANT - DO NOT double click on the WinMPM.zip file; or

B)    Press the “Start” button, select the “Run…” menu item and type the following, WITHOUT the parentheses, in the ‘Open’ text area: “C:\WinMPMtp\Unzip.bat”.

7.      A black DOS window will appear requesting the password.  It is a case sensitive password.  Type it exactly as you have received it.

8.      The files will be unzipped and ready for installation.  Follow the instructions in the setup program.  At the end of the setup there will be an option to print the Userguid.doc.  Userguid.doc is approximately a 51 page user manual which will take you through the initial setup steps for WinMPM.  It is strongly advised that you use this manual when you are starting to use WinMPM.

9.      Setup creates a WinMPM entry on the Windows “Programs” taskbar.  (Press “Start”, select “Programs”, select “WinMPM”.  A submenu will display showing a number of WinMPM files.  To run WinMPM, select the entry called WinMPM which is also identified by the doctor’s bag with a red cross, and a pencil positioned obliquely through the back of the doctor’s bag.

10.  To make WinMPM automatically startup when you boot your computer, right click on the start button and select the Open or Explore menu item.  Double click on the “programs” menu item and then double click on the “startup” menu item.  Right click on an empty area in the file list on the right side.  Select the menu item called “New” and then select the submenu item called “Shortcuts”.  Follow the dialogs to select “My Computer\C:\WinMPM\winmpm.exe” file from the “WinMPM” directory.

11.  If you are running WinMPM on Vista, right click on the WinMPM.exe file in the WinMPM directory.  Select “Properties” in the floating menu.  When the properties page opens, click on the “Compatibility” tab.  Select “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” Windows XP SP2 from the dropdown box.  Make sure to “Apply” your selection before closing the Properties page.

v     Download Updates of the entire WinMPM beta file:

1.      Open Windows Explorer.  (Press the “Start” button, highlight the “Programs” menu entry, and then select “Windows Explorer”.)

2.      Go the WinMPMtp directory and double click on this directory to open a list of files in the right side panel.  Select the menu item Edit and click on Select All.  All of the files in the right hand panel should be selected.  Press the Delete key.

3.      Continue from #2 in the “Initial Download of WinMPM beta” above.
